Kai: Rescue 22's Newest Pup Placement

Meet Kai, the newest member of the Rescue 22 Foundation pack to be placed with a veteran.

Trained by the R22 team at Coastline K9, Kai was delivered to his new family in Lexington, Kentucky, on March 6. The Marine veteran, who wishes to remain anonymous, will work with Kai to mitigate the challenges associated with post-traumatic stress and anxiety.

Trainers Bryon Beplay and Brett Hurt taught Kai how to provide interruptions and assist with grounding and pressure when his veteran starts to experience a panic attack. He is also trained to wake his handler from episodes of night terror.

Some longtime Adventure Dog readers may remember Kai from last year. He was placed with a veteran in Texas who unfortunately ended up having severe allergic reactions and requiring a dog with a hypoallergenic coat.

Kai is also working as a "regular" dog by being his handler's new exercise buddy. The Marine used to enjoy getting outside, running, and exercising but lost motivation due to the other challenges he's been trying to deal with.

As we all know, the ability to get outside, move, and enjoy the great outdoors is one of life's true treasures.

Kai will definitely be the living embodiment of the Marine Corps motto: Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful).
