Holiday Gift Guide

Buying the right gift for a coffee or canine fanatic can be a bit...

Daunting.

We're all pretty finicky when it comes to our two favorite things in the life.

To help you navigate the 2020 holiday gift-giving season, we've conspired with our friends at the Rescue 22 Foundation to give you our coffee and canine recommendations.

Oh yeah, one more important thing...

These gifts are all made by American small business owners.

COFFEE ESSENTIALS

Premium Coffee, Roasted Fresh to Order

The most important element of the perfect cup of coffee starts with the beans. And that's why we import only the finest shade-grown, high elevation beans from around the world.  All are USDA certified organic...so no nasty pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Once we get your order, we then slow-roast the beans at a lower temp than most roasters. This allows us to coax more of each bean's nuanced flavors. And best of all, proceeds from each bag of coffee sold go directly to help the Rescue 22 Foundation rescue and train shelter dogs and then place them as specialized service dogs for America's wounded veterans.

HAND-CRAFTED ACCESSORIES

Old Sessler Millworks, owned by Matt & Linda Dewhirst in Virginia, has been making hand-crafted cool things from wood since 2019. We love these wooden coffee/sugar  spoons and think they'd make a fantastic stocking stuffer. These spoons are made from locally sourced hardwoods on the Dewhirst's property or from the local area.

BURR COFFEE GRINDER

Conical burr grinders are the only way to go when it comes to making coffee at home. Seriously, it is the best investment you can make. A precise and even grind will let you experience a brighter and more complex flavor. Plus, you can use whole coffee beans that are going to stay fresh longer. Grinding releases valuable oils and exposes them to oxygen. From that second forward, you're in a race against staleness. And as a bonus, you have better control and more brewing options when you grind at home.  While you can spend hundreds on various grinders, we love the OXO BREW. The fancier version with a built-in scale was rated the 2020 Best Coffee Grinder Overall. You can go that route if you've got the dough, but the basic model gets the job done with 15 grind size settings – from fine for espresso to coarse for French press.

INSULATED TUMBLERS

OK...these are only kinda made in America. Look at the bottom of that super expensive vacuum-insulated tumbler that you have. Do you see where's it made? Yeah...our tumblers are made there too. Maybe even the same factory, but we can't say that.  But, each tumbler is laser-engraved in Austin, Texas...by a high school student who is trying to save up money to pay his way through college next year.  Best of all, they keep your hot coffee hot and your cold drinks cold.

JUST BECAUSE IT'S COOL

Susan Altenau makes each coffee mug by hand. Seriously. She grabs a chunk of clay, throws it on her potter's wheel and makes your mug to order. She also hand decorates them with your dog's mug...on a mug. Susan uses a glaze trailing/painting technique that I don't understand but the end result is very cool. The art is permanent, food safe, as well as microwave & dishwasher safe.  UPDATE: Due to demand, Susan can't make Christmas deadlines anymore.
